Lorna is a contemporary artist based in the Staffordshire Moorlands, and a Fine Art graduate of Staffordshire University. (2023) Her artistic practice is led by research into the witch. She is interested in the erasure of matrilineal knowledge and how this impacts contemporary society, and our growing disconnection with nature..
In her paintings, Lorna explores lived experiences and investigates the consequences of the witch trials. How far can we test the boundaries of social expectations now, before we’re considered deviant? There’s a stereotype around every corner Karen. How far are we from our roots and is it possible to get back?
The resulting artworks reflect family, nature, and an exploration into the complexities of lived experience and language. Lorna’s practice often depicts apotropaic marks and uses iconography including apples and pointy hats to explore visual language.
